C.1900: "The Big Barn," Doll Brothers Ranch, Gypsum Valley. Barn had 3 full stories, running water and electricity. Could stable 250 horses individually. Winter view with snow on ground. Fencing in foreground.

Potato harvest on Bobson Ranch near Gypsum. The unearthed potatoes are put on the horse-drawn sorter by hand. Two men are filling the sack from the sorter. Filled sacks are left upright in the rows to be loaded onto carts.

Studio portrait of Addison L. and Bird Crawford Hockett, early pioneers of Eagle County. He married Birdie Crawford on November 22, 1898. They lived in Gypsum and had six children. Addison's father, Barclay Hockett, first settled on the mouth of Brush Creek in 1882, in an area now known as Hockett Gulch. Barclay Hockett was Eagle's first postmaster. As the Doll Brothers ranch grew in size, brothers Frank and Sam built this three-story flour mill, circa 1900. "Considered modern in its time, the mill ground all wheat produced in the area, putting out 80 barrels a day. The mill even imported wheat to grind. After the mill burned, suspicion followed that the fire had been deliberately set by disgruntled businessmen in the area." -- Shirley Welch, The Eagle River Valley, p.114
